Hey everyone, I'm at my wit's end with my 6-month-old golden retriever, Sunny. Two main issues: 1) He still has accidents inside almost daily despite regular potty breaks. 2) On walks, he pulls so hard on the leash that my arm hurts! I've tried treats to reward good behavior, but it's not sticking. Any tips from experienced dog owners? I feel like I'm doing everything wrong.

Oh honey, I've been there! With my terrier mix, consistency was KEY for potty training. Take Sunny out IMMEDIATELY after waking up, playing, eating, or drinking. Like, within 5 minutes. Keep him on a schedule. For leash pulling, have you tried a front-clip harness? Game changer! It turns them toward you when they pull. Also, high-value treats like boiled chicken work better than regular biscuits. You got this, mama!

LOL dogs are such a handful. My cats just use the litter box and chill. But my sister has a lab - she swears by crate training for potty stuff. Dogs don't like to soil their sleeping area, so it helps them learn to hold it. For walking, maybe try stopping completely when he pulls? Like, become a tree until he relaxes. Works for her, but honestly I'm team cat for life 😸

Not a dog expert (my beardie just chills in his tank), but with reptiles, environment control is everything. Maybe limit Sunny's access to the house until he's trained? Baby gates or keeping him in one room? Also, positive reinforcement works with lizards too - small, frequent rewards. Good luck! PS: My snake's never needed a leash, just sayin'.

CorgiClara851 has a point about crate training! It really helps them develop bladder control. And BoxerBill243, limiting space is smart too - we used a playpen. OP, how often are you taking Sunny out? At 6 months, he should go out every 2-3 hours minimum. And when he does go outside, PARTY TIME! Treats, praise, the works. Make outside the BEST place ever. Hang in there - it gets better!
