Hey everyone, just adopted a 2-year-old rescue mix (maybe lab/shepherd?) named Finn. He's sweet but SO timid. Hides under the bed, won't eat if I'm watching, and startles at every noise. I work from home and want to help him feel safe. Are there any pet tech gadgets or smart devices that could help? Or just general advice? I'm worried I'm doing something wrong.

First off, THANK YOU for rescuing! Don't stress—this is super common. My terrier, Gizmo, was exactly like that. Give Finn time and space. For tech: I swear by a pet camera with treat dispenser (like Furbo or Petcube). You can toss treats from your phone without approaching him, so he associates you with good stuff from a distance. Also, a white noise machine or smart speaker playing calm music (there are pet relaxation playlists on Spotify!) can mask scary outside noises. Start slow!

Agree with Tim! As a dog walker, I see this a lot. Tech-wise, a GPS tracker (like Fi or Whistle) might ease your mind if he ever bolts out of fear—but focus on indoor comfort first. Try a smart plug on a low-heat pet bed or blanket for cozy vibes. Also, no forced interactions. Let him come to you. Maybe set up a safe corner with his bed, camera, and some interactive toys you can control remotely to engage him gently. Patience is key!

Not a dog expert (I keep reptiles), but I use smart thermostats and humidity monitors to keep my enclosures stable. Stress in animals often ties to environment. Could a smart home system help regulate temp/lighting to create a predictable routine? Like, gradual dimming lights at dusk to avoid sudden darkness? Consistency reduces anxiety. Also, maybe a motion-activated treat dispenser near his hiding spot to reward calm behavior automatically. Good luck with Finn!
