Hey everyone, first time dog owner here with a 5-month-old lab mix named Buster. I'm struggling BIG TIME with two things: 1) He still has accidents inside despite regular potty breaks, and 2) He absolutely refuses to walk on a leash - just plants his butt and won't move. I've tried treats, praise, patience... I'm exhausted! Are there any smart devices or tech gadgets that could help with training? Or just any advice from experience? Thanks!

Welcome to the club! With big breeds like labs, consistency is key. For potty training, I swear by a simple routine: out first thing in the morning, after meals, after naps, and before bed. No tech needed, just a schedule! For leash issues, try a front-clip harness - gives you more control without choking. My Akita used to pull like a sled dog until we switched. Also, start leash training INSIDE where there are fewer distractions, then move to the yard, then the sidewalk. Patience, patience!

If you want tech, I just saw a deal on Chewy for a smart potty training system - it's like a doorbell your dog can nose to signal they need to go. Was $50 off! Also, there are GPS trackers with activity monitors that can help you track potty patterns. For leash training, maybe try a hands-free leash you can clip to your waist? More comfortable for you. But honestly, the best investment is high-value treats (freeze-dried liver works wonders).

Charlie's right about treats! Kibble might not cut it for tough training moments. Try small pieces of boiled chicken or cheese. For the potty accidents, are you using an enzyme cleaner? Regular cleaners won't remove the scent, so he might be remarking the same spots. As for tech, I've heard mixed reviews about those automatic treat dispensers for training - sometimes they confuse the dog. Stick with positive reinforcement from YOU. How's Buster's diet? Sometimes digestive issues can cause more frequent accidents.

Great point from Sue about enzyme cleaner - totally essential! Also, watch for Buster's 'tells' before he has an accident (sniffing, circling, whining). When you see them, immediately take him out and praise like crazy when he goes outside. For leash training, make it FUN! Don't just walk - incorporate play. Toss a treat a few feet ahead so he has to move to get it. And remember, at 5 months he's still a baby. This is normal frustration territory. You'll get there!
