Hey everyone, I just adopted a rescue rabbit yesterday. He's a sweet little guy but he's soooo shy. He just hides in his hidey house all day and won't come out even for treats. I'm worried he's scared or stressed. Any advice for helping a shy small animal adjust? I want him to feel safe and happy here.

Aww, congrats on the rescue! With my dogs, I always give them space and let them come to me. Maybe try sitting quietly near his enclosure for short periods each day? Don't try to pet him yet, just let him get used to your presence. Also, consistent routine helps - feed at same times, etc. Good luck!

I keep reptiles, and with shy species I always make sure their enclosure has plenty of hiding spots so they feel secure. Maybe add more cover in his space? Also, try leaving some treats near his hide entrance so he associates you with good things. It can take weeks for some animals to adjust - patience is key!

Patty's right about patience! My bearded dragon was terrified for a month when I got him. I'd just sit by the tank reading out loud so he got used to my voice. Maybe try talking softly to your bunny while you're nearby? Also, make sure his environment isn't too loud or busy. Small animals stress easily.

Not a rabbit expert but with fish, we acclimate them slowly to reduce shock. Maybe limit handling at first? Also check his setup - proper temp, no drafts, etc. Stress can come from environment too. Give him time - rescue animals often need extra TLC. Keep us posted!
