Hey all, my beardie Spike (he's about 2 years old) is being super stubborn. I switched him to a new brand of pellets last week (the old one was discontinued) and he just stares at them like they're poison. I've tried putting them in his usual dish, even hand-feeding, but nope. Anyone have tips to get him eating again? Or maybe a brand you swear by? I'm worried he'll lose weight.

Hey Clara, first off - don't panic! Beardies can be picky, especially with pellets. What brand did you switch to? Sometimes it's the texture or smell. I've had good luck with Repashy or Arcadia pellets - they're pricier but my guys go nuts for them. You could try mixing a tiny bit of the new pellets with his old favorites if you have any left, or moisten them with a little water or reptile-safe veggie juice to enhance the scent. Also, double-check your temps - if his basking spot isn't hot enough (around 95-110°F), his appetite might drop. Keep us posted!

lol not a reptile expert but my fish do this too when i change food! maybe try a topper? i use freeze-dried crickets or worms for my lizards (i have a few anoles in a paludarium). sprinkling some on top might trick him into trying the pellets. also, have you tried offering live feeders as a backup to keep his weight stable while he adjusts? just a thought from the aquarium side!

Larry's onto something with toppers - dried mealworms or a tiny bit of bee pollen can work wonders. But Clara, avoid live feeders as a regular substitute if he's refusing pellets entirely; you want him on a balanced diet. How's Spike's behavior otherwise? Active, basking normally? If he's lethargic too, might be worth a vet check. Btw, did you transition slowly or just swap cold turkey? A gradual mix over a week or two can help. Hang in there!

Thanks guys! @BoxerBill243 - temps are good, and I swapped cold turkey (oops, my bad). I'll try moistening the pellets and mixing in some dried crickets as a topper. The brand is Zilla, btw. I'll grab some Repashy to test too. Spike is basking and moving around fine, just being a diva about food. Appreciate the advice - will update if he caves!
