Hey everyone, I'm at my wit's end! My 85lb Akita mix destroys every single toy I buy him within minutes. I've tried the 'tough' rubber ones, rope toys, even those 'indestructible' balls - he just chews right through them. Anyone have actual recommendations for toys that can survive a power chewer? I'm tired of wasting money and worried he might swallow pieces. Thanks in advance!

Alice, I feel your pain! My boxer is the same way - though I mostly keep reptiles now, I remember those days. The ONLY thing that worked for us was the Kong Extreme (black rubber version). Stuff it with frozen peanut butter and it'll keep him busy for hours. Also, have you tried antlers? The split elk antlers are pricey but last forever. My old dog had one for 2 years!

lol coming from the aquarium world, I can't help much with dog toys, but my friend's pitbull loves those heavy-duty nylon bones. They're like $20 at pet stores and apparently survive months. Also, maybe try redirecting to puzzle toys? My bearded dragon has puzzle feeders that keep him occupied without destroying stuff. Not the same, I know, but the mental stimulation might help!

Thanks Bill and Larry! Bill - I've tried the red Kongs but not the black Extreme ones. Will grab one tomorrow! Antlers scare me a bit with splintering though. Larry - you might be onto something with puzzle toys. My guy is smart and bored. Maybe a combo of tough chew + mental games. Anyone tried those 'Goughnuts' toys? Saw them online but skeptical after so many fails.

Goughnuts are decent! They have a warranty if your dog chews through to the red layer inside. But honestly, the Kong Extreme has been the gold standard for years. Also, consider a flirt pole - it's like a giant cat toy for dogs. Wears them out without them destroying anything. My reptiles are easier to entertain... just need the right heat lamp and some crickets! Good luck!
