Hey everyone, I'm desperate for help! My 2-year-old German Shepherd mix, Thor, destroys every toy I give him within minutes. I've tried rubber balls, rope toys, stuffed animals - you name it. He's not aggressive, just has insane chewing power and seems to think toys are puzzles to dismantle. I'm tired of wasting money and worried about him swallowing pieces. Does anyone have recommendations for ACTUALLY indestructible toys? Price isn't really an issue if it lasts more than a week!

Welcome to the club! I've fostered over 50 power chewers through my rescue work. First question: Is Thor a chewer or a shredder? There's a difference! For extreme chewers, I swear by GoughNuts - they have a safety indicator layer so you know when to replace. Also, the West Paw Zogoflex line holds up well for many of my fosters. Avoid anything with seams or weak points - those are destruction invitations!

OMG I feel your pain! My terrier mix Bella is the same - she's demolished 'indestructible' toys that claimed to be for pit bulls! What's worked for us: 1) The Kong Extreme (black rubber one) stuffed with frozen peanut butter keeps her busy for hours. 2) Nylabone's power chew bones actually last months here. 3) Honestly? Sometimes the best 'toy' is a thick rope soaked in broth and frozen - cheap and satisfying for their need to destroy something!

Tim's frozen rope idea is great for shredders! Adding to my previous post: Supervise ALL toy sessions initially. Even 'indestructible' toys can fail with determined dogs. Also consider mental stimulation - sometimes destruction stems from boredom. Puzzle feeders and training sessions can reduce the need to demolish things. Have you tried antlers or buffalo horns? They're natural and last ages for many chewers (though monitor for dental issues).

One more thought since you mentioned swallowing concerns: The Planet Dog Orbee-Tough balls have held up surprisingly well with my current foster, a 80lb power chewer. They're not completely indestructible (nothing truly is), but they're durable and non-toxic if small pieces do come off. Also, rotate toys! Having 3-4 in rotation keeps them novel and may reduce the focused destruction. Good luck - update us on what works for Thor!
