Help! My 80lb German Shepherd mix destroys every toy I buy him within minutes. I've tried 'heavy duty' rubber toys, rope toys, even those 'indestructible' balls - he chews through them like they're made of paper. I'm tired of wasting money and worried he might swallow pieces. Anyone have recommendations for toys that can actually survive a power chewer? Bonus if they're not crazy expensive!

I feel your pain! My Akita is the same way. The ONLY thing that's lasted more than a week is a GoughNuts toy - they have a safety indicator so you know when it's getting chewed through. Also, try antlers! The split elk antlers are pricey but my boy has had the same one for 3 months now. Just watch for sharp edges as they wear down. Kong Extreme with frozen peanut butter inside sometimes buys me 30 min of peace too lol

Ugh, dogs are so destructive. My cats would never... Anyway, my sister's lab has a toy called a 'West Paw Zogoflex' that's held up surprisingly well. It's recyclable too which is nice. But honestly, have you considered just giving him appropriate things to destroy? Like cardboard boxes? My neighbor's dog loves ripping up Amazon boxes and it's basically free entertainment.

Not a dog person but my bearded dragon has similar destructive tendencies with his decor 😅 For power chewers, I've heard good things about those black Kong toys - the extreme version. Also, maybe try a toy made for horses? They make some tough rubber toys for stall boredom that might stand up to a determined dog. Just make sure whatever you get doesn't have small parts that could come off!

Following up on my last post - my sister just texted me back. She said her lab finally destroyed the West Paw toy after 4 months, which is apparently a record. She's now trying something called a 'Benebone' that's supposed to be tougher than regular nylon. Personally I still think a cardboard box and some treats hidden inside would be cheaper and safer, but what do I know? I'm a cat person 🤷‍♂️
