My cat won't eat new food - any tips or topper recommendations?

Hey everyone, my cat Whiskers is being super picky! I just switched her to a new brand of dry food (supposed to be better for her urinary health) but she's totally refusing to eat it. She'll sniff it and walk away. I've tried mixing it with her old food but she just picks around it. Any tips for getting cats to accept new food? Or maybe some toppers that might help? Brands that worked for your finicky felines?

I know this is about cats, but with rescue dogs we face this ALL the time. Transition should be super slow - like 90% old food, 10% new for several days, then 80/20, etc. Takes 2+ weeks sometimes. Also, warming food slightly can help release aromas. For toppers, a tiny bit of low-sodium chicken broth or plain cooked chicken might entice her. Good luck!

lol cats can be such divas! My bearded dragon is less picky than some cats I've met. Not sure about cat brands, but maybe try different textures? My friend's cat only eats pate wet food, won't touch chunks. Could it be the kibble shape/size? Sometimes they're weird about that.

Off-topic but interesting - with fish, we sometimes 'gut load' their food with nutrients. For cats, maybe try sprinkling nutritional yeast or a fish oil supplement? My sister adds a little salmon oil to her cat's food and he goes nuts for it. Just a thought from the aquarium side!

Adding to my earlier post - make sure Whiskers isn't actually sick. Sudden food refusal can sometimes indicate health issues. If she's otherwise acting normal (playing, using litter box), it's probably just pickiness. But if she's lethargic or hiding, vet time. Also, some cats prefer shallow dishes so their whiskers don't touch the sides!
