Hey everyone, my cat Whiskers is being super fussy lately. I switched him to a new brand of dry food (the vet recommended it for his weight) and he just sniffs it and walks away. He's been eating the same stuff for years, so I get it's a change, but he needs to lose a few pounds! Any tips to get him to eat? Or maybe some toppers that might help? I'm worried he's gonna go hungry.

Ugh, I feel your pain! My cat Luna is the queen of picky eaters. She'll starve herself before eating something she doesn't like. What worked for me was mixing the new food with the old stuff gradually, like 75% old, 25% new for a few days, then 50/50, etc. Also, warming it up a bit in the microwave (just a few seconds!) can make it smell more appealing. Good luck!

Hi! Dog mom here, but I've had cats too. First, make sure there's no medical issue causing the refusal - a quick vet check can rule that out. For toppers, try a little plain cooked chicken (no seasoning!), a sprinkle of nutritional yeast, or even a tiny bit of low-sodium tuna juice (just a teaspoon mixed in). Also, some cats prefer shallow, wide bowls - whisker fatigue is real! Hope Whiskers comes around soon.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention brands! Luna eventually took to Blue Buffalo's weight control formula after some coaxing. It's pricier, but she likes the smaller kibble size. Also, have you tried different textures? Sometimes switching from dry to wet or vice versa helps. My friend's cat only eats pate-style wet food, nothing else. Cats, man... they're worse than toddlers sometimes!
