Hey everyone, my 5-year-old tabby Mittens has been throwing up hairballs almost every week for the past month. Sometimes it's just foam, sometimes there's an actual hairball. She's an indoor cat and I brush her regularly (maybe 2x a week). Is this normal or should I be worried? She's still eating and acting fine otherwise. Should I take her to the vet?

Weekly hairballs aren't necessarily emergency-level but definitely worth mentioning at your next vet visit. Some cats are just more prone to them. Have you tried a hairball formula food or adding a little pumpkin to her diet? The fiber helps things pass through. Also, consider brushing more frequently - daily if you can!

My siamese used to get hairballs CONSTANTLY. We switched to a grain-free diet and it helped a lot. Also got one of those furminator brushes - game changer. If she's vomiting that often, I'd rule out other issues first though. Could be a food allergy or something else going on internally.

Not a vet but work at a clinic - please get her checked out! Frequent vomiting can lead to dehydration and there could be an underlying issue like IBD or thyroid problems. Weekly is too often. Your vet might recommend bloodwork or an x-ray. In the meantime, try Laxatone or similar hairball gel - it helps lubricate things so hair passes through instead of coming up.

Thanks everyone! I'll definitely book a vet appointment. I didn't realize weekly could be a sign of something more serious. I'll try the furminator and hairball gel in the meantime.
